Body Piercing Aftercare

You must think of your piercing not as a piercing but as a wound. Following proper piercing aftercare instructions will minimize factors that inhibit the healing process and reduce the risk of infections.

Before cleaning or tightening the balls on the piercing jewelry, always wash your hands first with Frangrance free antibacterial soap. Doing so will help eliminate any transfer of harmful bacteria to your piercing or the area. It is recommended not to use rubbing alcohol, peroxide, or any ointment such as Neosporin for your piercing, as these products may cause problems.

When changing your jewelry, you should wait the time suggested by your professional piercer or until healing time is complete. The only time that you should change your piercing before that is if extreme over swelling causes problems and complicates the healing process. In that case, it is best to go back to your piercer, where he/she will be able to change it out for a longer piece of jewelry.

You must be mindful of your piercings during any activities. When working out, you must be aware that the dirt and oils from your skin will get into your piercing when you sweat. Getting a piercing doesn’t mean you need to stop what you are doing; it just means that you should clean the area after you are done with your activity to ensure your piercing’s safety.

When it comes to sports, you must realize that you will cause trauma to your piercing. The more traumas you put on your piercing, the longer it will take to heal. If there are any problems or questions regarding your piercing, please call us or visit our shop.

Sea salt soaks for faster piercing healing

1. Wash your hands with a non-scented antibacterial soap.

2. Place 1/8 teaspoon of non-iodized sea salt and 4 oz of distilled water into a small disposable cup/shot glass.

3. Add the warm water (could be bottled), distilled, or tap water. Tap water should be boiled before use and cooled to a lukewarm temperature. Keep in mind that your cup/shot glass should be at least half full to do the soak for each piercing.

4. The cup should be placed upright over the piercing and allowed 5 minutes to soak. If the piercing area does not allow a disposable cup to be used, then simply submerge a cotton pad into the cup and place it on the piercing area for 5 minutes.

5. Daily use of antibacterial soap and using sea salt soaks every other day should provide a stable and safe treatment for your piercing.

6. Dermal and Surface piercings will have slightly different directions, but you will still use antibacterial soap and sea salt soaks.

7. With every use of either antibacterial soap or sea salt soaks, you need to rinse the area thoroughly to eliminate buildup.

8. If you are worried about an infection, call your doctor.
